High Alumina Brick for Cupola Furnace

According to the office environment of the cupola furnace, refractory bricks must be selected considering the operating temperature standards, which are resistant to abrasion, thermal shock resistance, corrosion of molten iron and slag, and good quality refractory materials with low Fe2O3 content.

Following the technological development trend, the furnace type tends to be replaced by imports, and the temperature of molten iron is also greatly improved. Therefore, when the furnace lining is working under the standards of high temperature, rapid temperature drop, impact of recycled waste, molten iron corrosion and slag corrosion, the damage is aggravated. The refractory materials commonly used in cupolas have gradually changed from general refractory materials to advanced refractory materials, and from general refractory bricks to unshaped refractory materials.

The cupola furnace is a key machine equipment for melting pig iron in forging production. The pig iron block is melted into molten iron and poured into a sand mold to be unpacked after the water cools to obtain castings. The cupola wall is composed of a bottom, a body, a forehearth, and a bridge.

Following the technological development trend, furnace types are getting bigger and bigger, and the volume of molten iron is also greatly improved. Therefore, when the furnace lining is working under the standards of high temperature, sudden temperature change, impact of recycled waste, molten iron corrosion and slag corrosion, the rate of destruction is also faster. The refractory materials commonly used in cupola have also changed from general refractory materials to advanced refractory materials.

High alumina bricks (https://highaluminarefractory.com/high-alumina-bricks/) are widely used in the forehearth of cupola furnaces and refractory materials for bridges because of their three-layered characteristics of higher refractoriness, softening temperature under load, and slag resistance than clay bricks.

1. The bridge is used to connect the cupola furnace wall and the forehearth. It is composed of vault, wall and bottom. Clay brick walls are usually used. In order to improve the life of the bottom of the wall and the bottom leather, high-density and high-aluminum brick walls can be used.

2. The forehearth is composed of bottom, wall and top. The stove top is a vault or a suspended slope roof. The forehearth wall is usually made of clay bricks and high-alumina bricks, and the middle layer of the furnace bottom is rammed with ramming materials. The material is the same as that of the cupola bottom.

Therefore, the application of high alumina bricks in the forehearth and bridge positions of the cupola can give full play to the characteristics of high alumina bricks and improve the application efficiency.
